The amazing streak Jeff Bridges was on up until this point had to end some day. Well, OK, it wasn't that amazing - not on Meryl Streep's level for sure, but an Oscar win in 2009 and another nomination in 2010 was a pretty good period for this veteran star. He took a bit of a break and came back with...well, R.I.P.D. Not sure what he saw in this script to be honest. Maybe he just wanted to have some fun after a couple of pretty gloomy movies.
And fun he did have, for sure. He plays an intense cowboy lawman, who is a self-proclaimed leader of men and the best dead police officer in the world. His real world "avatar" is a supermodel, which causes some hilarious interactions, but he is also very animated on his own. He completely overshadows Ryan Reynolds in every scene and gets to throw plenty of amusing lines at his rookie on-screen partner. He was definitely the best thing about R.I.P.D., and he alone makes this otherwise forgettable movie maybe...just maybe worth watching.
