Cloud Atlas (2012): James D'Arcy

I noticed this talented actor back in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. He played a 1st. Lieutenant of the war ship, sported a cool scar and was very convincing as a promising young naval officer. It should have been his breakthrough role, but I guess it wasn't significant enough to propel him towards greener pastures that TV movies and obscure TV shows.

I'm not sure why he decided to use the short momentum he got after Master and Commander to focus on horror movies. Exorcist: The Beginning was bad, and An American Haunting - even worse. And after that he just couldn't find his way back for quite a while. Things are looking up slightly now, but I don't want to jinx it. We'll see how it goes. Again, it's a damn shame Cloud Atlas bombed so spectacularly. He had his moments in this movie. Especially in the futuristic story line where he was interrogating Doona Bae's character. His old man's makeup though? Creepy.
